A roller coaster ride for newly-hired full-time head coach Rodney Terry and the Texas basketball program in the NCAA Transfer Portal early this offseason is starting to come to a head. Texas looks set to host multiple priority portal targets on campus for multi-day visits this week.

Maybe the biggest portal visitor for Terry and the Longhorns staff this week is the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year and the former UT-Arlington Mavericks freshman guard Chendall Weaver. Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas/On Texas Football reported on the morning of April 30 that Weaver is set to take a multi-day visit to Austin this week.

Hamilton specifically mentioned that Weaver is set to take the official visit to Austin starting on May 3. The OV to Austin for Weaver will last two days, with it wrapping up the following day on May 4.

This won’t be the first time that there’s an in-person visit that takes place between Texas and Weaver. Texas coaches made the in-home visit with Weaver a few days ago.

Moreover, this report from Hamilton also confirmed that Texas is set to host the former UTEP Miners junior 6-foot-8 power forward transfer Ze’Rik Onyema on a visit starting on May 1.

At the moment, it looks as if the top two portal priorities for Terry and the Longhorns are Weaver and Onyema. That makes the stretch of four days in the upcoming week when Onyema and Weaver are visiting the 40 one of the most critical stretches of the offseason in terms of roster building for Terry and his staff.

Texas has already added two portal players in the 2023 transfer class as of April 30. Terry and the Longhorns landed a commitment from the former Virginia Cavaliers redshirt junior center Kadin Shedrick as the first portal addition of the offseason on April 23.

And the most recent portal pickup for the Longhorns was a massive one on April 27 in the form of the former Oral Roberts standout senior guard and two-time Summit League Player of the Year Max Abmas.

Texas looks to be one of the top schools involved in the portal recruitment for Weaver. Some of the other schools that are involved in this portal recruitment are the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas A&M Aggies, Ole Miss Rebels, and Baylor Bears, among a few others.
