Jerrick Gibson, RB

The top running back recruit in the nation in the 2024 class, five-star IMG Academy product Jerrick Gibson, is one of the hottest names on the trail for the Longhorns this offseason. Gibson has made it to campus multiple times for visits to the Forty Acres this offseason, including an unofficial trip for the spring game on April 15.

Combine the comfort level that Gibson and his camp have on the 40 at this point in his recruitment with his airtight relationship with Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice, and I am confident in saying that the Longhorns are out in front for the elite Florida running back.

I think it is well documented at this point that Texas is leading the race to land Gibson’s commitment this spring. Texas must be able to thwart efforts from competing schools on the recruiting trail trying to chip away at their lead in this recruitment, such as the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators.

Miami and Florida hosted Gibson on a few trips during the spring. And I think the former of those two schools did make a move for Gibson in the last few months.

I also won’t rule out some of the big SEC schools that Gibson will be making official visits to this summer. He is set to officially visit the Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, and Alabama Crimson Tide in June.

All in all, this recruitment is Texas’ to lose heading into the summer. Choice has the best relationship of any coaches recruiting Gibson, which could be the deciding factor in this recruitment when it’s all said and done.
