Texas Football: Tarique Milton invited to Giants rookie minicamp
There were a handful of Texas football players still available to sign following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft over the weekend. Three Texas Exes were either signed as undrafted free agents or received an invite to rookie camp in the 48 hours since the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The former Longhorn that received an invite to a rookie minicamp is the former Iowa State Cyclones and Texas redshirt senior wide receiver Tarique Milton. A tweet from Jeff Howe of Horns247 on April 30 reported that Milton will be attending the rookie minicamp for the New York Giants.
The 5-foot-10 and 195-pound Milton will be looking to make his case to make the Giants’ roster after a lengthy collegiate career in the Big 12 between his time at Iowa State and Texas over the course of five seasons.
Milton was a productive and slippery slot wideout at Iowa State in the first few years of his collegiate career, prior to suffering an unfortunate string of injuries in 2020. Milton hit the ground running during his first two seasons at Iowa State, registering more than 1,100 receiving yards on 69 receptions with four touchdown catches.

And while Milton wasn’t able to reach that level of production he boasted in the first two years of his collegiate career at Iowa State after 2020, he did show flashes in the last couple of years of the speed and shiftiness we saw in his early seasons. Milton racked up 30 catches for nearly 400 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the last two seasons at Iowa State.
Following the conclusion of the 2021 campaign, Texas snagged Milton as a grad transfer in the portal. Milton was added as a proven and reliable depth piece to the wide receiver last season. He was targeted sparingly last season, getting just a half-dozen targets despite taking more than 150 offensive snaps for the Longhorns.
Those six targets at Texas last season for Milton resulted in two catches for 40 receiving yards.
Milton was one of three former Longhorns undrafted players this year that will get a shot to make an NFL roster this offseason. The other two, cornerback D’Shawn Jamison (49ers) and safety Anthony Cook (Chiefs), were signed as undrafted free agents on April 29.
