J’Marcus Webb, OT

I’m sure that there will be plenty of Longhorns and NFL fans that could get a chuckle out of the inclusion of the former Longhorns and West Texas A&M offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb on this list among impactful contributors in the pros in the last two decades.

Webb had his fair share of struggles in terms of showing consistency and grasping pass-pro schemes during his pro career, which lasted from 2010-2020. He also had a few injury issues in the mid-to-late 2010s that prevented him from being a consistent starter in the NFL for more than three or four years.

But the fact of the matter is that there were a few years with the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders in the early-to-mid 2010s when he was able to be a consistent starter along the offensive line.

In the first three years of his pro career, Webb was a consistent starter at offensive tackle for the Bears. He reached a peak with the Bears during the 2012 season, when he ranked among the top 20 offensive tackles in the NFL in approximate value and blocking grade.

Pro Football Focus even named Webb the most consistent offensive lineman for the Bears following the conclusion of the 2012 season.

Moreover, Webb always had the tools to excel as a high-level starter at offensive tackle. The towering 6-foot-7 and 320-pound OT didn’t really get a chance to flash those tools at Texas, though, as he looked to get more playing time elsewhere. He wound up finishing his collegiate career in the late 2000s at Navarro College and then West Texas A&M before getting picked by the Bears in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
