One of the top two cornerback priorities in-state in the 2024 class for the Longhorns heading into the summer is the highly touted four-star Temple Lake Belton defensive back Selman Bridges. The gifted and lengthy 6-foot-4 and 170-pound blue-chip cornerback recruit loves what he’s seen from Texas in the last couple of months.

Texas made a huge move in this recruitment since Bridges was first offered by the Longhorns on Jan. 13. He loved his first unofficial trip to Austin this spring after the Texas offer a couple of months prior.

Bridges was one of the many priority recruits in the 2024 and 2025 classes that made the trip for the open scrimmage/practice and cookout on the weekend of March 25 for Junior Day. He was able to soak up the environment, and he loved getting to connect in person with some of the Texas players along with cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and Sark.

I’ve said this before, but the fact that Sark is in pretty constant communication with this defensive back recruit shows just how much the Longhorns are prioritizing Bridges.

It will be huge for Joseph and the Longhorns to keep Bridges around the 40 as much as possible during the summer and fall. The more that Texas can build this relationship and keep Bridges around campus this offseason, the higher the likelihood that it will be able to seal the deal with this lengthy and talented cornerback.

A report from On3 last week mentioned that Bridges is currently looking at a decision around the first National Signing Day in December. We’ll see if Texas can push to move that timeline up in its favor with a successful official visit next month.
