Texas Football: Titans invite TE Jahleel Billingsley to rookie minicamp
One of the last of the former Texas football players that went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft class, senior tight end Jahleel Billingsley, was able to find a team to potentially make a roster with this offseason. Billingsley received an invite on May 1 to the rookie minicamp with the Tennessee Titans.
Matt Zenitz of On3 confirmed multiple reports early this week that Billingsley received an invite to rookie camp for the Titans.
Billingsley was one of nearly a half-dozen former Longhorns in the 2023 draft class that went undrafted. The 6-foot-4 and 230-pound former Texas and Alabama Crimson Tide tight end did not participate in the 2023 NFL Draft Combine as he did not receive an invite.
However, Billingsley did participate in Texas’ Pro Day last month, despite only playing four games for the Longhorns last season. Billingsley was expected to be a major contributor to the passing game on the Forty Acres last year as a transfer addition for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns during the 2022 offseason.
Billingsley was limited from the outset of last season, as he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 campaign. He made his Texas debut in Week 7 against the Iowa State Cyclones. And he was targeted for the first time last fall in Week 8 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Over the course of his four games played for the Longhorns last season, Billingsley was targeted just six times. That resulted in three catches for 38 receiving yards.
Billingsley was more productive during his three years at Alabama from 2019-2021. He showed flashes of brilliance during his three seasons at Alabama, despite not putting it all together on the field on a consistent basis over any lengthy and sustained stretch of games.
During his three seasons at Alabama, Billingsley registered 37 catches for 559 receiving yards and six touchdown catches.
Billingsley will now look to prove that he can be a quality contributor with the Titans heading into the 2023 season. He definitely has the tools and potential to not only make an NFL roster but also be a key contributor as a receiving tight end.
There aren’t many tight ends in this draft class that have the type of athletic traits, large catch radius, and strong hands that Billingsley brings to the table. He’s one of the most capable athletes at the tight end position in this draft class and is the type of threat in the open field that would resemble something closer to a tall wide receiver than a traditional tight end.
Rookie minicamp will begin for the Titans later this month. If Billingsley makes a big impression on the Titans’ staff, he has a shot to get signed to an actual deal to make the roster heading into the 2023 NFL season.
