There is big news around the Big 12 hoops recruiting landscape this week, and it concerns a former priority target on the trail for the Texas basketball program. The Baylor Bears now look to be getting the elite five-star Napa (CA) Prolific Prep center Yves Missi to campus a year early.

An official release from the Baylor athletics site on the morning of May 3 confirms that Missi will be reclassifying to join the Bears’ 2023 signing class to get to Waco this offseason ahead of the 2023-24 college hoops season. Missi will be joining the likes of the elite five-star McKinney (TX) Link Prep Year shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter and four-star Wichita (KS) Sunrise Christian point guard Miro Little in a stacked 2023 Baylor recruiting class.

Getting Missi to reclassify is almost certain to get Baylor to crack the top 10 ranked 2023 recruiting classes in the nation for some of the major recruiting services.

With Missi reclassifying to join Baylor’s 2023 class, that obviously means that he has signed with Baylor while getting ready to enroll for the summer semester in Waco.

It was just a few months ago that Missi once was firmly on the radar of the Longhorns on the recruiting trail for the 2024 class. Missi was once considered a Texas lean late last year when he made the official visit to Austin on Dec. 9, 2022.

But the saga involving former Texas head coach Chris Beard wound up putting the Longhorns behind the eight ball in this recruitment after the turn of the calendar year. Baylor had a chance to seize momentum in this recruitment after Beard’s firing.

Baylor officially landed Missi’s commitment on Jan. 4, 2023, over other top schools such as Texas and the Stanford Cardinal. Texas will now have to face Missi as a member of the Bears during the 2023-24 season.
