One of the most recent offers in the 2024 Texas football recruiting class, rising three-star Houston Langham Creek tight end Jordan Washington, is a new target on the trail that this staff has already appeared to have made quite the impression on. Texas offered Washington on May 2, which he announced on social media.

Texas is one of just a handful of Power Five schools that have offered Washington thus far. He just recently reached double-digit offers in the last few weeks including ones from the Utah Utes, Purdue Boilermakers, and Arizona State Sun Devils.

It looks like the two offers that have caught Washington’s attention the most this spring are Utah and Texas. Washington already has an official visit date set to see Utah next month, specifically on June 13.

And it now seems like a return visit to Texas is going to be in the cards for Washington after he made the trip initially to Austin for the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25. Hudson Standish of Horns247 (paid content) reported on May 4 that Washington enjoyed the trip to Texas on the weekend of March 25 to see the open practice/scrimmage and attend the cookout.

This report from Horns247 also noted that if Washington got an offer from Texas this offseason, it would make the Longhorns “really tough to beat”.

And it looks like Texas was quick to get a return trip setup with Washington for mid-June. Washington will be making his official visit to Texas June 16-18, during one of the biggest visit weekends of the offseason.

From the early indications in this recruitment in the last couple of days since Texas offered, it looks like the Longhorns are already starting to trend for Washington. Two 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions were entered in the last 48 hours projecting Washington’s commitment to Texas with moderate to high confidence.

All in all, this offer makes a lot of sense for the Longhorns. The 6-foot-4 and 205-pound in-state tight end recruit is a gifted athlete with good measurables and a lot of potential. Washington is a two-sport athlete that plays football and basketball at Langham Creek High School.

From the film I’ve watched of his, Washington shows good straight-line speed and a good route-running ability at the tight end position. He had a couple of nice catches for explosive plays at Langham Creek last season that really caught my eye in terms of his ability to get down the seam and separate from opposing defenders in coverage.

Washington also shows the potential to be a multi-level threat in the receiving game thanks to his large catch radius and above-average speed and separating ability compared to the average tight end recruit.

Banks and the Longhorns found a good one during the spring evaluation period with the offer to Washington. If Texas is in fact looking to take two tight ends in this class, Washington could be the long-term developmental prospect while Banks continues to pursue more impact-ready recruits at the position in this class (i.e. Ryner Swanson and potentially new high four-star offer Jaden Reddell?).

Texas took a high upside prospect as part of a two-tight end class for the 2023 cycle, in the three-star Mater Dei product Spencer Shannon.

At the moment, Washington’s summer visit schedule only features trips to two schools. He’s set to officially visit Utah on June 13 a little less than one week before he makes the official trip to see Texas starting on June 16.
