Texas Baseball: Dylan Campbell makes Horns history with hitting streak
A Texas baseball record that stood for roughly a decade and a half was taken down this weekend by junior outfielder Dylan Campbell. With a double that Campbell hit to the wall in left-center field against the Kansas Jayhawks on May 7, he was able to set a program record for the longest-hitting streak at 26 games.
According to the Texas baseball record books, the program record for the longest hitting streak was previously set by infielder Michael Torres in 2008. Torres notched a 25-game hitting streak when he got a late-game hit on April 19, 2008, against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Campbell tied Torres’ program-record 25-game hitting streak with a home run that he hit in a May 6 win over the Jayhawks on the road.

This hitting streak for Campbell started on March 25, in a win at home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. It’s also worth noting that Campbell has an on-base streak that spans more than 30 games.
Campbell’s bat has absolutely caught fire in the last couple of months. After a slow start through the first month of the season where Campbell was batting less than .200 following a win over the North Dakota State Bison on March 14, he’s consistently hit over .300 for almost a month straight.
After Campbell’s double in the top of the first inning against the Jayhawks on May 7, he’s not batting .319 on the season with nine home runs and 32 runs batted in. He is one of more than a half-dozen Texas hitters that are now batting over .300 on the season.
Texas went into this matchup against Kansas on the road in Lawrence on May 7 sporting a record of 31-17 (11-9 Big 12) following a comfortable 6-2 win over the Jayhawks on May 6. If Texas comes out of this matchup against Kansas to cap this weekend’s three-game series in Lawrence, it will extend its winning streak to two games ahead of a midweek matchup at home at the Disch on May 9 against the UT-Arlington Mavericks.
