There is an increasingly-impressive list of cornerback recruits on the visitor list this weekend for Texas football and CB coach Terry Joseph. On May 10, we mentioned the multiple reports that stated the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black would be making the unofficial trip to Austin this weekend.

Now, we’re getting word of another blue-chip cornerback recruit that looks set to make the unofficial visit to Austin this weekend. Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas reported on May 11 (paid content) that the highly touted four-star 2025 Pearland (TX) Shadow Creek Cobey Sellers will be making the visit to Austin on May 12.

This will be the first time that Sellers visits Austin since he received a Texas offer on April 13, 2023. It will also be his second visit to Austin in the last couple of months.

Sellers’ first unofficial visit to the 40 was on March 31, 2023. And it wasn’t too long after that trip that Sellers received the highly coveted Texas offer.

Texas football adds 2025 4-Star Cobey Sellers to the growing list of CB recruits visiting this weekend

Sellers transferred from Fort Bend Christian to Shadow Creek ahead of his junior season. He played varsity football at Fort Bend Christian for his freshman and sophomore campaigns.

Texas, like most schools, has offered Sellers as a cornerback. Although, he did play quarterback at times over the last two seasons at Fort Bend Christian High School while returning punts and kicks.

The 6-foot and 165-pound Sellers has the makings of one of the more athletic and versatile blue-chip cornerback recruits in-state in the 2025 class. He’s a smooth and rangy athlete that has good ball skills and a good amount of straight-line speed for a cornerback.

Sellers definitely has the length and physicality that Joseph and Pete Kwiatkowski would be looking for out of a corner that could handle himself in one-on-one coverage, potentially on the boundary. He was also an impact player on special teams at Fort Bend Christian last season, returning at least one punt for a touchdown.

He also racked up nearly 650 all-purpose yards between his contributions on offense and special teams at Fort Bend Christian the last two years (per MaxPreps).

Other schools involved in the recruitment

Texas is one of the early schools to offer the fast-rising blue-chip cornerback recruit. Sellers still hasn’t reached double-digits in terms of the number of schools on his offer sheet as of May 11. But it’s only a matter of time before his recruitment continues to explode given the plethora of talent and athleticism he brings to the table at the position.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders and Baylor Bears were the first Power Five schools to offer Sellers last fall. He’s also visited Texas Tech and Baylor at least once each since each offered him during the fall.

Since that time, Sellers has reeled in two of his biggest offers from Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma offered in mid-February. He also visited Norman during the spring unofficially (March 24).

Sellers is currently just one of two blue-chip in-state cornerback recruits that Texas has offered in the 2025 class. The other is the elite five-star Houston North Shore product Devin Sanchez, who is rated by some of the major recruiting services as the top cornerback prospect in the nation in the 2025 class.
