One of the top defensive priorities on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class for Texas football, the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons, is reportedly going to be in Austin this weekend. Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas reported on the morning of May 13 that Simmons will be in Austin this weekend, for the purpose of working out “with NFL players”.

Simmons set the tone by saying that “I’m out here working with NFL players”, clarifying “that’s why I’m down in ATX” this weekend.

But it is worth noting that he could make a pit stop by the UIL state track meet “to watch his Duncanville teammates” compete. The UIL state track meet is held at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas-Austin.

There are some familiar names on the recruiting trail among Simmons’ teammates competing in the state track meet this week, including five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore and four-star running back Caden Durham (per UIL records).

Durham competes in events such as the 100-meter dash and the 4×200-meter relay for Duncanville. And Moore competes in the 4×100-meter relay and the 4×200-meter relay with Durham.

Moreover, this won’t be the first time that Simmons has made it to Austin in 2023. He was in Austin for an unofficial visit to Texas for the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25. Simmons also visited Texas unofficially last fall, specifically on Nov. 12 for the TCU game at DKR.

It was also reported this week that some of the Texas coaches made the visit to Duncanville High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex earlier this week. The Texas coaches were out to see key defensive recruits in the 2024 class, including four-star defensive lineman Alex January and Simmons.

We will continue to monitor this to see if Simmons does wind up making it onto the Forty Acres to watch some of his Duncanville teammates compete in the UIL state track meet this weekend.

Simmons is the top edge rusher target for the Longhorns in the 2024 class. Texas is locked in a battle on the recruiting trail this spring in the race to land a commitment from Simmons with some big-time SEC schools such as the LSU Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs.
