One of the top priority in-state wide receiver recruits in the 2024 class for head coach Steve Sarkisian, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and Texas football heading into the summer is the highly touted four-star Midlothian product Bryant Wesco. Texas has made it known how much they value Wesco in the 2024 class in the last few months.

The 6-foot-3 and 170-pound Wesco is considered by most of the major recruiting services to be one of the top three wide receiver recruits in Texas in the 2024 class. He’s got a special combination of size, speed, and verticality that could make him a lethal skill weapon at the collegiate level.

Wesco also looks like he could be a great fit on the boundary in Sark’s offensive scheme. He’s got the explosiveness and versatile route tree that could allow him to be utilized in multiple ways pre-snap from the boundary receiver position to threaten opposing defenses.

And while Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns have made a big push on the recruiting trail with Wesco this spring, it wasn’t able to get them on the docket for a summer official visit from the blue-chip wideout as of yet.

Wesco got the first-round officials scheduled for the summer last week. He’ll get started with this round of official visits with a trip to see the USC Trojans and head coach Lincoln Riley this weekend (specifically starting on May 18). Then, Wesco will make the trip to see the Clemson Tigers (June 2-4) and LSU Tigers (June 10-12) in early June.

To round out the officials, Wesco will see the TCU Horned Frogs on June 17 and Tennessee Volunteers on June 23.

Texas football and OU left on the outside looking in for the initial round of officials for 4-Star WR Bryant Wesco

Wesco excluded two pretty significant schools that made his top eight that he announced a couple of months ago in this round of officials. Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners weren’t among the five schools on the docket to get an official visit from Wesco among the five that he currently has on the books.

But that doesn’t mean that Texas and Oklahoma are completely knocked out of the race to land a commitment from Wesco heading into the summer.

Justin Wells of Inside Texas reported on May 15 (paid content) that Wesco mentioned in the last week that “there’s a chance I could visit Texas”. Jackson and the Longhorns would probably have to push for a late-summer official visit since it sounds like Wesco is likely going to make a decision before the start of his senior season at Midlothian.

Since the NCAA approved a ruling that will allow recruits to take an unlimited number of official visits (to different schools, unless there is a coaching change) starting on July 1, there is still a chance that Texas and Oklahoma could get OVs from Wesco this summer.

I fully expect Jackson and the Longhorns to keep their foot on the gas pedal for the rest of the spring in this recruitment. Jackson has made it clear that Wesco is one of his top priorities in the state of Texas in the 2024 class almost since the moment he arrived on the 40 earlier this offseason.

Wesco was one of the first recruits that Jackson established regular communication with this offseason. And Jackson continues to build a stronger bond with Wesco since Texas extended him the offer a few months ago.
