Miami

It would make a ton of sense for the Big 12 to try and go after both Florida State and the Miami Hurricanes in the mix to expand its presence in the state of Florida. Imagine a Big 12 that had UCF, Miami, and Florida State all in the mix.

This hypothetical would obviously be incredibly improbable for the Big 12 to pull off. But this is another one that could at least make some geographic sense for the three schools involved in Florida (Miami, Florida State, and UCF).

Miami appears to have a football program that is headed in the right direction under second-year head coach Mario Cristobal. The former Oregon Ducks head coach Cristobal got off to a slow start at Miami last season, missing out on bowl eligibility with a final record of 5-7 (3-5 ACC).

Under Cristobal, though, Miami has recruited at a level necessary to get them back to national relevance in the next few years.

The Miami brand is also something that would bring a lot of value to the table. Miami is a solid athletic program that is strong in basketball and has a good tradition in baseball.

If Cristobal does have the football program headed in the right direction, Miami would be a tremendous addition to the Big Ten, SEC, or Big 12. And with the Big Ten and SEC both about to be at 16 members, there could be a way for the Big 12 to try and pitch Miami and Florida State to join its ranks instead of any of the other major conferences.
