Colin Simmons, EDGE

The top defensive priority in the 2024 class for the Longhorns without a doubt is the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons. The top-ranked edge rusher prospect in the nation in the 2024 class according to nearly all of the major recruiting services is at the top of Texas’ big board heading into the summer.

And while Simmons has yet to announce his official visit dates for either the summer or fall, it sounds like Texas will be in the group of schools that he sees in the coming months. He’s already taken an unofficial visit to Austin in the last couple of months, when he made the trip for the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25.

I would also expect him to officially visit the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, and maybe Alabama and the Georgia Bulldogs when he announces his trip schedule.

We’ve talked about it a lot on this site in the last six or eight months, but it’s almost a given at this point that Simmons is going to play in the SEC in all three or four years of his collegiate career. That’s why Texas making the move to leave the Big 12 for the SEC one year early in 2024 is such a big factor for them in this recruitment.

All in all, it would be nice to see Texas be able to get Simmons to campus for that huge official visit weekend this staff has planned for the weekend of June 23. That’s when the buzz surrounding the program will be the strongest among visiting priority recruits in the 2024 class, which would only help the Longhorns in this recruitment as it hits a critical stage this summer.
