Texas football is doing really well on the trail recruiting defensive backs in the 2024 class this spring. Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph is seemingly doing some good work on the recruiting trail of late, especially with some top in-state targets in the secondary such as five-star Waco Connally cornerback Kobe Black and four-star Temple Lake Belton cornerback Selman Bridges.

We shouldn’t discount the work that Joseph, safeties coach Blake Gideon, and the Longhorns are doing on the recruiting trail with some top safety targets in the 2024 class either. Texas is in a good spot heading into the summer with some top safety targets in the 2024 class such as four-star IMG Academy product Jordon Johnson-Rubell and four-star Lancaster product Corian Gipson.

The former of those two Texas native defensive back recruits in the 2024 class, Fort Worth native Johnson-Rubell, has the Longhorns high on his list heading into the summer. Justin Wells of Inside Texas reported on May 19 (paid content) that the Longhorns actually sit in the “pole position” in this recruitment at this point of the offseason.

This report from Inside Texas comes just ahead of the start of Johnson-Rubell’s summer official visits. Johnson-Rubell locked in four official visits this week, including one to Texas on that massive weekend on the trail in late June.

Texas football still leading for 4-Star priority 2024 DB Jordon Johnson-Rubell

Johnson-Rubell will take his official visit to Texas specifically on the weekend of June 23.

The other three official visits that Johnson-Rubell locked in this week are to the USC Trojans (June 1), Michigan Wolverines (June 9), and Ohio State Buckeyes (June 16).

This is huge that the Longhorns could not only be getting Johnson-Rubell to make the official trip to Austin during the biggest visit weekend of the summer, but it also could be the last that the blue-chip DB recruit takes in this round of officials. That opens the door to the possibility that Texas gets the final word among Johnson-Rubell’s official visits this summer before he’s ready to make a decision.

Texas is seemingly hosting all of its top-priority defensive back targets in the 2024 class for official visits on the same weekend in late June. The aforementioned top priority blue-chip cornerback duo of Black and Bridges are set to officially visit Texas the same weekend as Johnson-Rubell as is the DFW-area product Gipson.

The June official visit will be Johnson-Rubell’s first trip to Austin since he was in unofficially on March 10. It will also be the second time that Johnson-Rubell has visited Austin, officially or unofficially, in 2023.
