Another presumed position of need entering the spring for the Longhorns was at linebacker. Texas entered the spring with some depth concerns at the linebacker position after the departures of two senior starters in DeMarvion Overshown and Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey this offseason.

But the rise of key linebackers such as redshirt senior David Gbenda and true freshman early enrollee Anthony Hill Jr. helped to alleviate some of the depth concerns at the position for now.

Texas is still young and pretty unproven at the linebacker position beyond guys like senior All-American candidate Jaylan Ford and Gbenda. Hypothetically adding an experienced former blue-chip talent at linebacker such as the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish junior Prince Kollie could help to sure up the depth at the position.

Kollie was a reliable player in the linebacker rotation for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish in the last two seasons. Despite taking just over 200 defensive snaps since 2021, Kollie was pretty productive during his time in South Bend.

He was a reliable stop-gap playing at weakside linebacker as he picked up more than a dozen defensive stops, 32 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, and two stops, in the last two seasons at Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-2 and 210-pound Kollie could help to provide more depth at will linebacker for the Longhorns behind Gbenda as a hypothetical insurance policy heading into the 2023 season. Gbenda did have a solid spring camp for the Longhorns, but there are still question marks surrounding the depth at weakside backer since there isn’t much proven game experience at this spot on the current roster.
