Texas softball cruises past Texas A&M 11-5, advances to Super Regionals
For the second time in as many days, No. 13 Texas softball downed the rival Texas A&M Aggies in the Austin Regional. Texas and head coach Mike White cruised past the Aggies in the final of the Austin Regional on May 21, to the tune of a comfortable 11-5 win.
Texas will advance to the Super Regionals with this win over Texas A&M on the afternoon of May 21. This is the fourth year in a row that the Longhorns will advance to the Super Regionals. And if Texas advances past the Super Regionals next week, it will mark the second year in a row that it makes it to Oklahoma City, OK, for the Women’s College World Series.
Moreover, the Longhorns were able to top the Aggies at Red & Charline McCombs Field on May 21 thanks to a big day from the bats. Texas also was able to take advantage of a trio of costly Texas A&M errors, which resulted in three unearned runs for the Aggies on the day.
The spark to the offense in this game for the Longhorns came courtesy of junior DP Courtney Day. The third-year Pearland, TX, native posted a game-high five runs batted in, which also happens to tie a season-best for Day.
Day knocked in those five runs with two hits in five at-bats, to go along with one run scored.

Texas also saw third baseman Mia Scott have a big day at the plate and on the base paths. Scott gave the Longhorns a game-high four runs that came from three walks and one hit in two at-bats.
Day and Scott combined to score nearly half of Texas’ runs and also provided almost half of the RBIs on the afternoon.
And for the second straight game, sophomore pitcher Sophia Simpson was able to come in and provide some clutch support on the mound late. Simpson gave the Longhorns two solid shutout innings of work on the mound, striking out four Texas A&M batters and only allowing one hit.
Texas sweeps the Austin Regional to advance to supers
Texas was able to come up with three straight wins in three tries in the Austin Regional to move onto supers for the fourth year in a row. The Longhorns defeated the Aggies twice and the Big East Tournament champs Seton Hall Pirates once in the Austin Regional this weekend.
After making its way through the Austin Regional, Texas is awaiting the winner of the Knoxville Regional between the Indiana Hoosiers and No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers to find out the opponent for the supers. If Indiana is able to pull out two wins on May 21, it will face Texas in the Austin Super Regional.
However, if Tennessee wins either game on May 21, it will host the Longhorns in the Knoxville Super Regional. Texas is set to carry a record of 45-13-1 (11-7 Big 12) into supers, which will begin on May 26.
