In a couple of weeks, the official visit season will begin for Texas football on the recruiting trail. June will bring at least a few dozen official visitors to Austin for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian.

The official visit set will begin for Sark and the Longhorns staff literally right from the get-go during the month of June. Texas will host its first official visitor of the summer on June 1, when the highly touted four-star Laguna Beach (CA) tight end Ryner Swanson makes the first of his summer official visits to see Austin.

And then, there are some of the visitors that are parts of the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes that have unofficial trips set to see the Forty Acres this summer. Between the official and unofficial visitors for the Longhorns from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 recruiting classes, there will be more than 50 prospects making the trip to Austin next month.

The top must-get Texas football recruits among the official visitors this summer

With all of this in mind, here’s a look at five must-get summer official visitors for the Longhorns in the 2024 class.

Daniel Calhoun, OT

Texas and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood are getting the job done in a big way on the recruiting trail in the last few cycles. And it appears that the offensive line class for Flood and the Longhorns in the 2024 cycle will be nearly as deep as the 2023 class and will have some of the type of talent that the 2022 class did.

One of the most important offensive linemen for Flood and the Longhorns to prioritize this summer will be the high four-star Roswell (GA) Walton offensive tackle, Daniel Calhoun. You won’t find many offensive tackle prospects in this class that have the type of mobility and pull-blocking ability as Calhoun given his large frame.

The towering 6-foot-7 and 360-pound blue-chip offensive tackle out of Georgia has emerged as a top priority at his position group for this cycle for Flood and the Longhorns this spring.

Flood and the Longhorns had Calhoun in for a successful unofficial trip to the 40 last month. Calhoun made the trip to Austin for the spring game (April 15). He came out of that trip with nothing but good things to say about Texas and the staff.

Texas made a huge move in this recruitment during the spring. Word on the street is that Texas is right there with some of the top SEC schools such as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs.

It sounds like Georgia still has the slight edge in this recruitment heading into the summer, with Texas and potentially Alabama and the Tennessee Volunteers still among the top group of schools.

Georgia gets the first official visit from Calhoun on June 3. He is also set to see Alabama (June 10), Tennessee (June 16), and Texas (June 23) next month.
