5-Star EDGE Colin Simmons sets Texas football official visit for June
One of the biggest priority recruits on the board for Texas football in the 2024 class just locked in his official visit to Austin for the summer. The elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons announced his initial round of official dates on the morning of May 25, which included Texas among the three schools he’s set to set next month.
Simmons is set to begin his June official visit schedule by seeing the Miami Hurricanes on June 9. Then, Simmons will make the trip to Eugene to see the Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning.
Last but not least, Simmons will make the official trip to Austin during the Longhorns’ massive visit weekend starting on June 23.
It’s not very surprising to see Simmons join the insane list of in-state official visitors that Texas has slated for that key weekend in late June. Simmons will join the likes of five-star Temple (TX) Lake Belton wide receiver Micah Hudson, five-star Waco Connally cornerback Kobe Black, and five-star IMG Academy running back amid this loaded group of official visitors set for June 23.
Texas football sets late June official visit date with elite EDGE Colin Simmons
Texas seems to be loading up on a massive group of in-state visitors for this crucial late-June weekend. Meanwhile, a lot of the priority out-of-state recruits for the Longhorns in the 2024 class will be officially visiting Texas on the weekend prior (starting on June 16).
Moreover, I expect Simmons to be scheduling more official visits in the coming months as some of the top schools in his recruitment aren’t listed among the three he’s seeing in June. The LSU Tigers, TCU Horned Frogs, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Texas A&M Aggies are all schools that could still receive an official visit from Simmons later in the summer or in the fall.
The late June official visit will be Simmons’ first trip to the Forty Acres since he made the unofficial visit for the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25. He also visited Texas unofficially last fall for the TCU game on Nov. 12.
Simmons has made it known that he wants to play in the SEC for all four years in college. And it sounds like he wants to ultimately stay closer to home, which is why schools like Texas and LSU have generated a lot of buzz in this recruitment in the last few months.
Texas currently holds commitments from three recruits in the 2024 class as of May 25. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2024 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 62 in the nation.
