Colorado

Among the most intriguing potential expansion candidates for the Big 12 to consider out of the PAC-12 is the Colorado Buffaloes. It makes some sense for the Big 12 to consider new head coach Deion Sanders and Colorado for a reunion in this round of conference realignment for multiple reasons.

The biggest reason why I think the fit between Colorado and the Big 12 makes sense a little more than a decade after the Buffs originally left the conference for the PAC-12 is that the athletic program appears to be trending up again. Sanders is trying to right the ship for the Colorado football program, making some of the most extreme transfer portal changes to a team that we’ve witnessed in one offseason ever.

If all these portal pickups end up working out for Sanders and the Buffs, though, most will no longer be questioning the methods that the new head coach took to rebuild this roster.

Another selling point for the Buffs is that the men’s hoops program is in pretty solid ground in the last decade. Colorado was on a pace in the last decade or so under head coach Tad Boyle of making the NCAA Tournament around every other year.

Bringing a competitive men’s hoops program and a football program that looks to be on the rise are good reasons for the Big 12 to consider bringing Colorado back into the fold in the near future. And from a geographic perspective, Colorado is more proximal to the rest of the Big 12 than most other teams out of the PAC-12 that could be considered to add to the fold.
