Texas Football: Predicting every 2024 commit for Longhorns in June
Jerrick Gibson, RB
The most likely of the five-star recruits that the Longhorns are prioritizing in the 2024 class that could commit this month is the elite IMG Academy running back Jerrick Gibson. The nation’s top-ranked running back recruit in the 2024 class really likes what he sees from running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns.
And while there are other programs making big pushes in this recruitment heading into the summer visit season, the confidence that I see a lot of people having in Texas in this one isn’t wavering. Texas still looks the part of the firm leader in the race to land a commitment from Gibson heading into the summer.
On3 national recruiting director Chad Simmons recently mentioned in a report on June 1 (paid content) that he sees Texas being “ahead by a lot” in this recruitment.
It sounds like the biggest competition to land Gibson will come from the Miami Hurricanes. Gibson will make his official visit to see head coach Mario Cristobal and the Canes starting on June 9. That looks to be one of Miami’s big visit weekends, akin to the June 23 weekend for the Longhorns.
Miami will also be hosting another five-star recruit that is a big-time priority for the Longhorns in Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons on the same weekend as Gibson’s official visit.
Moreover, as long as Texas can hold off any pushes namely from the Canes this month, they should be in a good spot to start making a move to shut down this recruitment when Gibson officially visits the 40 starting on June 23. Texas holds the pole position and that will be tough to change at this point.
