Texas football added its first commit to the 2025 recruiting class on the afternoon of June 3 by landing a bit of a surprise pledge from the highly touted four-star Saraland (AL) quarterback KJ Lacey. The Alabama blue-chip quarterback Lacey was a huge get for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian out of SEC country.

Sark and the Longhorns really made a big splash to get the 2025 class off the ground in the midst of the Texas Elite Camp weekend. Lacey committed to Texas in the midst of his first unofficial trip to Austin in 2023. He announced his commitment to Texas on social media on June 3, which has generated a lot of buzz in the hours since the tweet.

Lacey is one of only two quarterback recruits that Sark, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns had offered in the 2025 class thus far. And it looks like Texas already has its guy to build around in the 2025 class, especially at the skill positions, with the talented and potent 6-foot-1 and 180-pound signal-caller Lacey now in the mix.

Who could be the second to commit to Texas football in the 2025 class after 4-Star QB KJ Lacey?

The commitment from Lacey could also spark a wave of momentum for Sark and the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class early during the June visit season. Here’s a look at who the next 2025 commit could be for the Longhorns after landing Lacey on June 3.

Taz Williams Jr., WR

One of the top in-state wide receiver targets early in the 2025 cycle for the Longhorns is the touted four-star Red Oak (TX) product Taz Williams Jr. While Texas just offered Williams in the last couple of months, it looks like the staff has already made a big impression on the DFW-Metroplex area native.

It’s worth noting that Williams was on campus this weekend for Texas’ Elite Camp. That was Williams’ first unofficial trip to Austin since he made the visit for the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21.

Williams mentioned a few weeks ago that he “loves” the NFL background/resume that new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson brings to the table for the Longhorns. Jackson has clearly already made a good impression on Williams and his camp. And the communication remains strong between the two parties heading into the summer.

Moreover, if you’re wondering just how much Texas is throwing at this recruitment of late, just look at the coaches that are involved in pursuing Williams. Texas has the likes of Jackson, offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, running backs coach Tashard Choice, and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks all involved in this recruitment.
