Big 12 Football: 2 more PAC-12 conference expansion after CU, Arizona
There could be big news on the horizon for the Big 12 football conference this week. Upon the completion of the PAC-12’s new media rights deal, radio host Greg Swaim of The Swaim Show is reporting that the Colorado Buffaloes and Arizona Wildcats “will move” to the Big 12.
This could be the latest shoe to drop in the ongoing evolution of conference realignment in the modern age of college sports. The conversation continues to keep the Big 12 in the eye of the storm as conference expansion has dominated the headlines in college sports over the last couple of years.
Heather Dinich of ESPN reported on June 2 that Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark touted “a plan” moving forward for conference realignment.
The Big 12 has seemingly looked at a lot of different options for potential conference expansion moves the last few months. That included various reports in the last month or two that the Big 12 was kicking the tires on the likes of the UConn Huskies and Gonzaga Bulldogs as potential new members in the conference.
Schools Big 12 football should add out of the PAC-12 along with Colorado and Arizona
If this report from Swaim holds up, though, adding schools from the PAC-12 could be the next move for the Big 12 in this round of conference realignment.
It is also worth noting that the Big 12 might not stop at just adding two more teams to the mix if Colorado and Arizona do wind up joining the conference in the near future. The Big 12 could still look into getting to 16 teams upon the departure of the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners to the SEC in 2024.
With that in mind, here’s a look at two more conference expansion candidates the Big 12 could consider along with Arizona and Colorado.
