The highest-rated 2025 prospect the Longhorns offered coming out of the Elite Camp last weekend is the touted four-star Nashville (TN) Ensworth defensive lineman Ethan Utley. The 6-foot-5 and 260-pound Utley is rated among the top 150 prospects in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite.

Texas is getting in on this recruitment pretty late, though. Roughly three dozen schools had already offered Utley prior to Texas offering him over the weekend. Most of the interest Utley has surrounds schools from the SEC including the Tennessee Volunteers, LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Alabama Crimson Tide, among others.

He’s visited Tennessee, LSU, and Texas A&M multiple times each since last offseason.

However, I still think Texas has a chance in this recruitment if defensive line coach Bo Davis and Sark really prioritize Utley. Sark personally extended the offer to Utley, and it sounds like the blue-chip 2025 defensive lineman really connected with Davis during the Elite Camp visit.

If Texas were to hypothetically able to eventually land Utley’s commitment, it wouldn’t be the first time that Davis went into SEC country and won a big-time recruitment.

What Utley brings to the table is a lengthy defensive tackle that is constantly developing and has the quickness and necessary upside to be stout in the SEC. Utley has long arms and good hands, which allows him to shed blocks quickly in the pass rush. He’s also pretty quick off the line of scrimmage, potentially making him an ideal run-stopper out of the three-tech at the collegiate level.
