Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian kicked off summer workouts this week upon the arrival of roughly a dozen new additions to the program among the enrollees for the summer semester. Last week, most of the summer enrollees got moved in on campus and got ready to partake in the summer strength and conditioning program over the course of the next couple of months.

Texas got underway with summer workouts this week with some light conditioning while getting the routine going in the weight room. Next week, though, we should see the Longhorns get up and running with the full summer workout program.

This is also a time when the Texas coaches are getting the new enrollees, as well as the early enrollees from the spring semester, ingratiated in the summer workout program to make sure the players are on the right track to get their bodies right heading into the fall.

That hasn’t given much of an opportunity to get much insight into the new enrollees making an impression on the coaches and their teammates.

But we have still heard a few pieces of feedback regarding the new enrollees for the Longhorns that have caught some people’s attention within the program in the last week or so. Here’s a look at three new enrollees for the Longhorns that have made an instant impression early in summer workouts.

Ryan Niblett, WR

The highest-rated summer enrollee among the offensive players for the Longhorns is the former four-star recruit out of Houston Aldine Eisenhower and true freshman wide receiver Ryan Niblett. The talented and speedy Houston, TX, product Niblett has a lot of potential in this offense over the long term.

Yet, Niblett probably won’t be in a spot where he’s ready to make an immediate impact for Texas on the field this fall. He still needs some refinement in his game technically in terms of his route running and technique.

Niblett has apparently blown some of the people within the program away with how fast he’s proven to be out of the gates this summer. Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas reported on June 3 (paid content) that Niblett clocked in at 22 miles per hour in a full spring early in summer workouts.

It sounds like Niblett is proving to be one of the fastest Longhorns players right away after arriving on campus last week. His speed could be something that separates him as one of the most dangerous players in this wide receiver room a year or two down the line.
