Texas Football: Isaiah Neyor looks ‘really good, really fast’ in workouts
Texas football started to work into the full strength and conditioning routine this week upon the arrival of more than a dozen new enrollees on campus for the summer semester. One of the major storylines to watch for summer workouts for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian is the progress of some of the players rehabbing from various injury issues.
A top player at the wide receiver position for the Longhorns that is working his way back into the fold from an unfortunate season-ending knee injury he suffered in fall camp last year is rising redshirt junior Isaiah Neyor. The former Wyoming Cowboys transfer is trying to get his body right so that he can make a full return in fall camp for the Longhorns.
Neyor started to really make some progress in his rehab from the ACL injury he suffered last fall during spring camp this offseason. We heard about Neyor even putting the pads on at one point in spring practice. Albeit, he was never a full participant in contact drills in spring ball due to the restrictions that the training staff has him on as he goes through the rehab process this offseason.
Texas football WR Isaiah Neyor reportedly looks “really good” early in summer workouts
It sounds like Neyor continues to make progress in rehabbing his knee early in the summer workout program. Horns247 reported on June 8 (paid content) that Neyor is “drawing praise for how confident and fast he looks following his recovery”.
A team source reportedly told Horns247 that “Neyor looked really good” and “really fast”.
This is great news to hear that Neyor is making good progress in the rehab program following his ACL surgery last year. We originally heard that he was “expected” to make a full return to practice for the Longhorns by August (presumably by the start of fall camp). That timeline was an unofficial expectation by the team as to when we could realistically see Neyor make a full return to contact drills.
And it sounds like Neyor could still be on track to meet that timeline if he’s looking good with an increased workload in the summer workout program.
Neyor transferred to Texas last offseason after spending a couple of seasons at Wyoming as a Second-Team All-Mountain West Conference performer in 2021. The aforementioned knee injury held Neyor from making the big impact he was expected to have on the Texas offense in 2022. He will look to be one of the top wideouts for Sark, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns during the 2023 season.
