Texas football in the lead for priority 4-Star TE Ryner Swanson
The first official visitor of the month of June for Texas football in the 2024 class was the touted four-star Laguna Beach (CA) tight end, Ryner Swanson. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks hosted Swanson for his official visit to Austin last week, which lasted multiple days and ended in the middle of the weekend (specifically on June 3).
Sark, Banks, and the Longhorns made a big impression on Swanson during his official trip to Austin. We mentioned on the site recently how Texas became a “strong candidate” among Swanson’s top schools coming out of the official visit last weekend.
In fact, Texas made a move to solidify itself among Swanson’s top three schools heading into the summer, along with the Oregon Ducks and BYU Cougars. Texas checked a lot of the boxes for Swanson, including the culture fit in Austin and the connection with the coaching staff.
The move that Texas made coming out of Swanson’s official trip last weekend might be understated, though, by saying that the Longhorns are just a “strong candidate” in this recruitment. That is if a recent report from Jason Suchomel of Orangebloods gives any indication of where Texas stands with Swanson at the moment.
Texas football taking the lead for 4-Star TE target Ryner Swanson?
Orangebloods reported on June 8 (subscriber content) that Texas has surged “into the lead” in the race to land a commitment from Swanson in the last few days. Texas blew Swanson and his family away with the multi-day official visit last week.
It even sounds like Texas could’ve made a big enough impression on Swanson to get him to move up his decision timeline earlier in the summer.
Now, Texas has to be able to hold the lead in this recruitment as Swanson goes through the rest of his official visits in the next couple of weeks. Texas needs to keep this momentum alive while Swanson makes official visits to Oregon on June 9 and BYU on June 11.
The fact that Swanson reportedly moved up his BYU official visit to next Monday could mean that these visits have moved the needle enough for him to change his decision timeline. But that is mostly based on speculation as there isn’t a set decision timeline at the moment for Swanson.
There is a known trip overseas that Swanson is making to Europe after he wraps up this round of official visits in the next week or so. We will continue to monitor for updates in this recruitment to see if Swanson does decide to officially move up his decision timeline coming out of these three visits.
