Texas football recruiting got off and running in the 2025 class last weekend when head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee landed a commitment from the highly touted four-star Saraland (AL) quarterback KJ Lacey. The Alabama blue-chip quarterback Lacey is the first to commit to Texas’ 2025 class.

The commitment of Lacey gives Sark and the Longhorns staff a true cornerstone to build around for the foundation of the 2025 class heading into the summer. Lacey being committed to the Longhorns 2025 class can also help with recruiting in the 2024 class at a few key positions.

Lacey’s presence in the 2025 class will obviously help the Longhorns recruit at the other skill positions, such as running back and wide receiver, more than it would on the defensive side of the ball. But Lacey is also the type of prospect that is a pretty commanding presence that can be a sort of magnet for other highly touted out-of-state recruits on the Longhorns’ radar.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three priority recruits that Lacey can help the Longhorns land.

Dakorien Moore, WR

The top wide receiver priority in the 2025 class for Sark, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns is the elite five-star Duncanville product, Dakorien Moore. The 6-foot and 180-pound Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex native Moore is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the nation in the 2025 class.

And the Longhorns are making Moore feel like a top priority in this class because he is at the top of their board among offensive targets for the 2025 cycle.

Moore is coming off a fantastic unofficial visit to Texas last weekend for the Elite Camp. That was the first unofficial trip of the offseason that Moore made to the Forty Acres. And it really sounds like the Texas staff knocked this one out of the park.

Moore even named the Longhorns as the school at the top of his list coming out of last weekend’s visit to the Elite Camp. One of the reasons why Texas was able to move the needle so much with Moore last weekend was the commitment of Lacey. That will only help Texas’ case in this recruitment moving forward.
