Texas Football: Priority 4-Star DB Corian Gipson cancels Alabama visit
There is some big news this weekend concerning one of the biggest priority targets in the 2024 Texas football recruiting class, the highly touted four-star Lancaster (TX) defensive back Corian Gipson. BamaOnLine reported on June 9 that Gipson canceled his official visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend to see the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Alabama was supposed to be the second of four official visits that Gipson was scheduled to take this month. He made the official visit last weekend (specifically starting on June 2) to see head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers.
And as of the writing of this article early in the afternoon of June 10, Gipson is still scheduled to make official visits to see the Ohio State Buckeyes on June 16 and then Texas on June 23.
At the moment, though, it sounds like Texas and Clemson are the two teams trending in this recruitment. Clemson was the favorite in the race to land a commitment from Gibson over the last few months.
Texas football leading for 4-Star DB priority Corian Gipson after he cancels his Alabama visit?
Gipson made multiple trips (unofficially and officially) to South Carolina since the start of the spring to see Clemson. And it looked as if Swinney and the Tigers were in a good spot to push for a commitment from Gipson during his official visit to see them last weekend.
But it was good news for the Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian that Gipson still hadn’t shut down his recruitment coming out of the Clemson official visit early this week.
Texas now appears to be in a great spot to push for a commitment from Gipson heading into the June 23-25 official visit. The Longhorns will get the final official visit among those that are currently on the schedule for Gipson this month, which could be a major advantage for the Texas staff as they look to get a commitment out of one of the top in-state DB priority targets in the 2024 class.
The late June official will be the first time that Gipson visits the Forty Acres since he made the unofficial trip for the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21. He’s also made multiple unofficial visits to Texas since the start of last offseason, including one last fall for the TCU game on Nov. 12.
