Texas baseball and head coach David Pierce will open up the Stanford Super Regional on the evening of June 10 against the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal and head coach David Esquer. Texas is making its third straight appearance in super regionals, and its fourth straight when it appears in the postseason.

The Longhorns made it to the Stanford Super Regional by topping the No. 9 Miami Hurricanes in the final of the Coral Gables Regional last weekend. Texas swept the Coral Gables Regional in three games, defeating No. 9 Miami twice and the three-seed Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns once.

Texas defeated Miami in the final of that regional by a score of 10-6 on June 3. It also defeated Miami on June 2 and then Louisiana to open up the Coral Gables Regional on June 1. The three wins for the Longhorns in the Coral Gables Regional gives it a record of 41-20 (15-9 Big 12) heading into the Stanford Super Regional.

Meanwhile, Stanford comes into supers with a record of 42-17 (23-7 PAC-12) after defeating the two-seed Texas A&M Aggies twice to win the Stanford Regional last week. Stanford was facing elimination three separate times in its regional last weekend, but it pulled through in the end defeating Cal State Fullerton once and then the Aggies twice in the regional final.

The Cardinal also won the PAC-12 regular season title, leading the conference standings by a significant margin over the Oregon State Beavers.

Texas took a share of the Big 12 regular season title with the West Virginia Mountaineers and Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Game 1–Texas LHP Lucas Gordon (7-1, 2.45 ERA) vs. Stanford RHP Joey Dixon (6-0, 4.99 ERA)

According to Texassports.com, junior left-hander Lucas Gordon will get the call on the mound for Game 1 of the Stanford Super Regional against the Cardinal right-hander Joey Dixon. Gordon was rock solid of late for the Longhorns, coming up with three straight quality starts.

That includes Gordon’s gem in the opener of the Coral Gables Regional on June 1, where he allowed just one earned run and five hits in seven innings on the mound against Lousiana. Gordon has found himself in plenty of these clutch postseason starts before, so this matchup in the Stanford Super Regional is nothing new for the junior lefty.

If Texas can take Game 1 of this super regional against the Cardinal, it will be one win away from moving on to the College World Series for the third year in a row. Texas made it to Omaha last season after winning a super regional on the road in Greenville against the East Carolina Pirates.
