Following an impressive comeback win over the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal in Game 1 of the Stanford Super Regional on June 10, head coach David Pierce and Texas baseball are one game away from Omaha. Texas heads into Game 2 of the Stanford Super Regional with the opportunity to advance to the College World Series for the third consecutive year.

Pierce and the Longhorns got the job done on June 10 in Game 1 of the Stanford Super Regional thanks to a uber-clutch five-run rally in the top of the ninth inning. Texas was down by a score of 5-2 heading into the ninth inning on June 10.

But one Stanford error coupled with Jared Thomas and Porter Brown driving in a combined three runs accounted for the five-run outburst for the Longhorns in the top of the ninth to take the lead. Texas would close out the win over Stanford in Game 1 of this super regional thanks to some clutch work on the mound from Zane Morehouse, who claimed his seventh save of the season.

Texas got the win over Stanford in the opener of this super regional on June 10 by the final score of 7-5. That gives the Longhorns a record of 42-20 (15-9 Big 12) heading into the second game of the Stanford Super Regional on the night of June 11.

Meanwhile, Stanford comes into Game 2 of this super regional with a record of 42-18 (23-7 PAC-12) following its late two-run loss to Texas to start off the weekend.

According to Texassports.com, the 6-foot-4 redshirt sophomore right-hander Lebarron Johnson Jr. will get the start for the Longhorns in Game 2 against Stanford. Johnson will be looking to follow up his amazing complete game performance in the Coral Gables Regional last weekend where he led Texas to a 4-1 win over the No. 9 Miami Hurricanes.

Johnson has proven to be stellar in seven road starts for the Longhorns so far this season. He’s registered a record of 4-0 with a sparkling 1.11 earned run average in 32.1 innings pitched in road starts this season.

It’s worth noting that Johnson is the only pitcher in the nation to have at least been undefeated in road starts this season with at least four wins and a sub-1.50 ERA.

Johnson and the Longhorns will face Stanford’s best starting pitcher, at least statistically speaking, in Game 2 on June 11. Quinn Matthews is the only Stanford starter that has a sub-4.00 ERA on the season.
