Texas Football: Assessing Horns 4 biggest official visitors this weekend
Christian Clark, RB
For the last few months, the presumed top two running back priorities in the 2024 class for running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns were both from out-of-state. The nation’s top-ranked running back recruit in the 2024 class and the five-star IMG Academy product Jerrick Gibson is clearly the top target at the position for the Longhorns.
But then, the highly touted four-star Phoenix (AZ) Mountain Pointe running back Christian Clark is widely considered a very important target at the position in his own right for the Longhorns in the 2024 class. Texas has pushed in this recruitment since the start of the spring.
Choice and the Longhorns were able to make a sizable move in this recruitment during the spring when Clark made his first unofficial visit to Austin in 2023 for the second Junior Day of the offseason (March 25).
Some of the Longhorns’ biggest competition in the race to land a commitment from Clark this summer are the Florida State Seminoles, Oregon, Georgia, and USC. He’s already made official visits to USC (May 19), Florida State (June 2), and Oregon (June 9). And he’s still got one more remaining official to Georgia on June 23.
Georgia isn’t expected to make a huge push for Clark after it flipped its top running back priority in the 2024 class from Florida in four-star Chauncey Bowens last week. Oregon is also pushing for another priority target at the position, four-star Nate Frazier.
That leaves Texas as the top school in this recruitment heading into Clark’s official visit to Austin this weekend. Choice and the Longhorns should be in a good spot to make a move to seal the deal with Clark in the coming days.
