The momentum is building for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian on the recruiting trail right now. Between landing a bit of a surprise commitment this weekend in the 2024 class in the touted four-star Scottsdale (AZ) Desert Mountain cornerback Santana Wilson and nabbing four-star Saraland (AL) quarterback KJ Lacey a couple of weeks ago, Texas is in good shape on the recruiting trail early this summer.

Sark and the Longhorns staff landed a commitment from the blue-chip Arizona cornerback Wilson in the midst of the first big official visit weekend in June. Wilson was one of the more than 20 official visitors on campus starting on June 16.

And it looks like more commitments could be coming shortly for the Longhorns, mainly in the 2024 class. A good portion of the recruits Texas has on commitment watch in the coming days and weeks are amid the group of official visitors in Austin this weekend.

There could also be some Texas targets in the 2024 class on commitment watch that will be officially visiting next weekend.

Key 2024 and 2025 recruits with crystal balls entered for Texas football this weekend

With all of this in mind, here’s a look at three key Longhorn recruits that had crystal ball predictions entered this weekend.

Jordan Washington, TE

The highest-priority tight end recruit for special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and the Longhorns in the 2024 class is the rising three-star Houston (TX) Langham Creek product Jordan Washington.

After Texas missed on the four-star Laguna Beach (CA) tight end target Ryner Swanson, who committed to the BYU Cougars earlier this week, Washington became the top target at the position on the big board for Banks and the Longhorns.

And it sounds like Texas treated Washington as a top priority during his official visit the last couple of days. Texas put a lot of effort into its pitch to Washington on his official visit this weekend, as junior standout tight end JT Sanders hosted him.

Texas’ recent push in this recruitment could pay dividends soon. In fact, it already looks like Texas is trending to land Washington’s commitment coming out of the official visit this weekend.

In the last 24 hours, a half-dozen forecasts were entered projecting Washington’s commitment to Texas from three major recruiting services (Rivals, 247Sports, and On3). More than half of these forecasts came from 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions on June 17 and 18.

Washington’s recruitment is heating up fast early in the summer. Competing schools on the recruiting trail, such as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies, have offered and set official visits with Washington in the last few weeks.

Just after the conclusion of Washington’s OV to Austin this weekend, he announced on social media on June 18 that he cut down his list to three schools. Texas looks to be in the lead amid Washington’s top three schools that also includes Alabama and Texas A&M.

He visited Texas A&M officially on June 2 and is set to see Tuscaloosa on an official trip next weekend.

Despite the recent pushes from Alabama and Texas A&M, I still firmly believe this is Texas’ recruitment to lose. Banks and the Longhorns made a big impression on Washington during his official visit this weekend. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Washington end up in this class in the next few weeks to the next couple of months.
