Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian picked up their second commit in as many days in the 2024 recruiting class on June 17. After landing the highly touted four-star Scottsdale (AZ) Desert Mountain cornerback Santana Wilson on June 16, Texas got a commitment from four-star Spring Branch (TX) Smithson Valley wide receiver Freddie Dubose Jr. to cap the weekend.

It sounds like more activity is on the way on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2024 class coming out of the first big official visit weekend of June.

Texas hosted more than 20 official visitors from the 2024 class last weekend. And that won’t even be as big as the official visit weekend coming up, which begins on June 23. Texas is hosting some top priority in-state recruits in the 2024 class on official visits this coming weekend.

The loaded visitor list this coming weekend includes five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons, five-star IMG Academy running back Jerrick Gibson, and five-star Temple (TX) Lake Belton wide receiver Micah Hudson, among many other blue-chip recruits.

Predicting the next 2024 commit for Texas football after 4-Star WR Freddie Dubose Jr.

I expect there to be more commits on the way before the start of the next official visit weekend. With that in mind, here’s a prediction of the Longhorns’ next 2024 commit after Dubose Jr. on June 17.

Jordan Washington, TE

An official visitor that came in last weekend on commitment watch for the Longhorns was the rising three-star Houston (TX) Langham Creek tight end Jordan Washington. The skilled in-state receiving tight end prospect had Texas at the top of his list since the Longhorns offered him May 2, 2023.

And after a very successful official visit where Washington was hosted by the All-Big 12 junior tight end JT Sanders over the weekend, it looks as if the Longhorns further establish themselves as the leader in this recruitment.

A post-official visit weekend report from Inside Texas on June 19 (paid content) notes the possibility of an August decision timeline for Washington. If that timeline holds up for the rest of the summer, the Longhorns must fend off competing schools in this recruitment that rounded out Washington’s top three, the Texas A&M Aggies and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Washington already took his official visit to College Station to see Texas A&M a couple of weeks ago. The next official trip on the docket for Washington is to Tuscaloosa next weekend to see the Crimson Tide.

Texas holds the clear lead in the race to land a commitment from its top in-state tight end priority in the 2024 class coming out of this big official visit weekend.
