Texas Football: 3 key recruits that cancelled/delayed OVs this week
Texas football concluded the first big official visit weekend of June a couple of days ago. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian hosted more than 20 official visitors from the 2024 class from June 16-18. This will be the first of two big official visit weekends this month, with the next starting on June 23.
Over the weekend, Sark and the Longhorns staff got the ball rolling with momentum on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class by landing two commitments from blue-chip prospects.
Texas first landed a pledge from the highly touted four-star Scottsdale (AZ) Desert Mountain cornerback Santana Wilson on June 17. And then, the Longhorns landed its second commitment in as many days with four-star Spring Branch (TX) Smithson Valley wide receiver Freddie Dubose Jr. on June 18.
Landing pledges from Dubose and Wilson, respectively, brings the Longhorns up to five commits in the 2024 class ahead of what could be the biggest official visit weekend of the offseason for Texas.
Before we talk about the crucial official visit weekend coming up in a few days, there is an important storyline to discuss regarding a handful of other visits that were originally scheduled for the middle of this week.
Texas football has multiple recruits adjusting visit plans this week
Here’s a look at three official visits this week that were either canceled or rescheduled for the Longhorns.
Kamar Mothudi, LB
The first of two linebackers we heard about regarding the cancellation of visit plans for this week was for four-star Los Angeles (CA) Campbell Hall School product Kamar Mothudi. The 6-foot-3 and 215-pound Mothudi was originally slated to visit Texas officially on June 20.
Yet, Inside Texas reported on June 19 that Mothudi canceled his official visit to Austin entirely for this week. It’s worth noting that Mothudi says in this report that Texas told him “they are not doing any mid-week OV’s”.
And it doesn’t look like there are any plans at the moment to reschedule the official visit with Mothudi later in the summer or during the fall.
Mothudi’s next official visit on tap will be on June 23 to Eugene, OR, to see the Oregon Ducks. Oregon is the presumed leader in the race to land a commitment from Mothudi heading into the official visit to Eugene this weekend.
It sounds like co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate are sticking to a more patient approach with linebacker recruiting. We’ll get into that more with the next recruit up on this list.
