Texas football was ‘impressive’ for priority 5-Star EDGE Jordan Ross
The hottest storyline for Texas football right now involves what’s going on for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff on the recruiting trail for the 2024 class. We are in the midst of two of the biggest visit weekends of the entire offseason.
Sark and the Longhorns staff hosted more than 20 official visitors last weekend as Texas built some real momentum in the 2024 class.
One of the highest-ranked official visitors the Longhorns hosted last weekend was the elite five-star Birmingham (AL) Vestavia Hills edge rusher, Jordan Ross. Texas hosted Ross on campus for the first time last weekend on his official visit. And it was a big success for the Longhorns and co-DC Pete Kwiatkowski.
CJ Vogel of TFB Texas reported on June 20 (donor content) that the Texas staff did “an impressive job of showing him that he is a priority” during the OV over the weekend. Ross reportedly got to spend some extra time with some of the other recruits and Texas coaches at Top Golf during one of the nights of his visit last weekend.

Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas also mentioned in the “Longhorn Livestream” on the On Texas Football YouTube page on June 20 that he feels like Texas has a “puncher’s chance” at Ross.
These are much more positive returns than I was expecting to hear from Ross’ visit from June 16-18. It originally looked as if Texas was jumping into this recruitment pretty late, as this was his first visit to the Forty Acres a few days ago.
Meanwhile, Ross has visited some of his other top schools, such as the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, and Alabama Crimson Tide, multiple times in the last six months.
The TFB Texas report notes that the staff will push to get Ross back on campus as many times as possible later in the summer and during the fall. If Ross remains uncommitted during the fall, and Texas can get him on campus for at least one return visit, that could be a game-changer in this recruitment.
Texas was the third official visit that Ross took this month. He’s already visited Florida (June 2) and Georgia (June 9) this month. Next up after the Texas visit last weekend is an official trip to Knoxville to see the Vols starting June 23.
