A recruitment that is worth watching this weekend is the highly touted four-star Lancaster (TX) safety/defensive back Corian Gipson. As one of the top defensive back priorities in-state in the 2024 class for the Longhorns, Gipson will get the priority treatment during his visit from June 23-25.

Many in the recruiting industry originally expected Gipson to commit to the Clemson Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney early in the official visit process this month. But Gipson ultimately made it out of the Clemson official visit on the weekend of June 2, remaining uncommitted.

With Gipson coming out of the Clemson visit with his recruitment still open, Texas knew it had a legitimate shot during the blue-chip DB recruit’s official visit to Austin starting June 23. That remains the case heading into the official visit this weekend, as Texas will be looking to shut this recruitment down during Gipson’s birthday weekend.

Hank South of Horns247 reported this week (paid content) that Texas and Clemson are the two schools duking it out in the race to land a commitment from Gipson this summer. However, other recruiting services are more optimistic than Horns247 in thinking that Gipson is more of a Texas lean heading into the weekend.

Texas is going to have to really knock it out of the park this weekend with Gipson’s official visit experience to convince him that jumping in Texas’ 2024 class is the right move. But it is certainly viable that Gipson is considered a Texas lean after the official visit this weekend.
