Texas Football: 3 Longhorns official visitors on commit watch this weekend
Jordon Johnson-Rubell, S
A heavier Texas lean among the out-of-state priority defensive back recruits in the 2024 class for the Longhorns is the talented four-star IMG Academy safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell. The Fort Worth, TX, native Johnson-Rubell is a highly-valued DB target by safeties coach Blake Gideon and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph.
Johnson-Rubell is one of quite a few IMG Academy prospects that are officially visiting Austin starting June 23. The other three of his teammates that will be on campus for official visits this weekend are five-star running back Jerrick Gibson, four-star defensive lineman TJ Lindsey, and three-star defensive lineman Jayden Jackson.
I think the wave of momentum Texas is building on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class right now could help it seal the deal with some of the official visitors this weekend from IMG Academy (I’m looking at you, Gibson and Johnson-Rubell). Johnson-Rubell and Gibson are the two most wanted IMG Academy recruits in the 2024 class for the Longhorns this summer.
Johnson-Rubell made official visits to Ann Arbor and Columbus this month, respectively, to see the Michigan Wolverines (June 9) and Ohio State (June 16). Ohio State did make an impression on Johnson-Rubell during his official to Columbus last weekend. But I think Ohio State needed to make up a ton of ground to unseat Texas as the top school for Johnson-Rubell, which isn’t something the Buckeyes accomplished last weekend, from what we’ve heard in the last few days.
