Colin Simmons, EDGE

This article could only be about the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons as the most important official visitor on campus this weekend for the Longhorns, and that would be fine. Simmons is the definition of a must-get recruit in the 2024 class for the Longhorns.

Especially with five-star Temple (TX) Lake Belton wide receiver Micah Hudson canceling his official visit to Texas this weekend as he’s expected to commit to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the near future, Simmons is clearly the highest-priority recruit on campus.

It will be interesting to see if the Texas staff gives Simmons the Arch Manning-type treatment during his official visit this weekend. Arch got the infamous golf kart treatment during his June official visit last summer, which helped Texas in that recruitment at the time.

Simmons’ recruitment will be different from Arch, though. Since Simmons is scheduled to visit Baton Rouge to see the LSU Tigers officially on Nov. 11, this recruitment will likely go the distance.

Texas and LSU are the top two schools in the race to land a commitment from Simmons.

During Simmons’ official visit this weekend, Texas’s goal should be to continue to build this relationship while laying the groundwork for a successful recruitment heading into the fall. If Texas can connect Simmons with the right players and the coaching staff continues to make a big impression on him, that will be considered a major success coming out of the official visit on June 25.
