Dominick McKinley, DL

The only five-star defensive lineman officially visiting Texas this weekend is the uber-talented Lafayette (LA) Acadiana product Dominick McKinley. The 6-foot-5 and 290-pound Louisiana native defensive lineman is making his second trip to Texas of the offseason. McKinley’s initial visit to the 40 this offseason was an unofficial for the first Junior Day on Jan. 21.

Texas made a good impression on McKinley during his unofficial for the first Junior Day of the offseason roughly six months ago. But there is still a lot of work for defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns to do in this recruitment to put themselves in a position to win his commitment heading into the fall.

There isn’t a clear leader in this recruitment at the moment. LSU would usually be considered the favorite in these sorts of recruitments, but a late offer coming from the Tigers didn’t help its case with McKinley.

The best way for this official visit to go this weekend is for Davis and the Longhorns to be the clear leader by making a big impression on McKinley and his family. If Texas can really move the needle with McKinley this weekend, I like the Longhorns’ chances with the elite Louisiana defensive linemen heading into the fall.

Other schools involved here are the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Alabama. Oklahoma made an impression during McKinley’s official visit to Norman last weekend, and Texas A&M is still involved after an official visit to College Station on June 9.
