Kobe Black, CB

The top priority defensive back recruit on campus for an official visit this weekend for the Longhorns is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. Texas and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph have made Black a top priority in this class for over six months.

And there is a ton of smoke surrounding the Longhorns in this recruitment. Texas is trending to win Black’s recruitment as multiple big recruiting services are projecting the Longhorns to get his commitment.

Joseph and the Longhorns are in the best spot heading into the official visit weekend in Austin to secure a commitment from Black. Texas offers the chance to start immediately at the boundary corner position next year. And Joseph has the best relationship of any coach recruiting Black this summer.

Texas has a loaded group of defensive back recruits officially visiting Austin this weekend (i.e., Corian Gipson, Selman Bridges, and Wardell Mack). But none is a higher priority in this class for the Longhorns than Black.

While Black has kept to saying that he will make a decision closer to the Early Signing Period in December, there is a chance that the Longhorns could move up that timeline with a successful visit over the next couple of days. I don’t know how likely Texas is to get Black to announce his commitment this weekend publicly, but it is possible.
