Texas Football: Predicting Longhorns’ next commit after Christian Clark
Corian Gipson, DB
One of the most important defensive back recruits in the 2024 class officially visiting Texas this weekend is the high-four-star Lancaster (TX) safety/defensive back Corian Gipson. The gifted 6-foot and 170-pound blue-chip defensive back prospect out of the DFW Metroplex has seemingly started to lean to Texas in the last couple of weeks.
It was big for the Longhorns to see Gipson make it out of his official visit to South Carolina to see head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers on June 9 without a commitment. Many in the recruiting industry saw Gipson committing to Clemson during his official on the weekend of June 9 after he made multiple visits to see the Tigers during the spring.
Orangebloods reported on June 22 (subscriber content) that Texas has “regained its status as the betting favorite” in the race to land a commitment from Gipson heading into the official visit this weekend. That is the type of sentiment we’re hearing from most reports and sources as Gipson is someone I have on commitment watch over the next few days if Texas can knock it out of the park on his OV.
Gipson is one of the highest-priority defensive back recruits officially visiting the 40 this weekend, along with five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black, four-star Temple (TX) Lake Belton cornerback Selman Bridges, and potentially five-star Timpson (TX) athlete Terry Bussey. That assumes Texas looks at Bussey as a corner/defensive back instead of a wide receiver.
