Career stats: 4,443 rushing yards (5.8 YPC), 40 rushing TDs

There is another big jump in career-rushing production when you look at the top three running backs in program history for the Longhorns.

The first up in the top three is the legendary 1977 Heisman Trophy winner and first overall pick of the Houston Oilers in the 1978 NFL Draft, Campbell. The four-year running back at Texas had four solid seasons for the Longhorns.

But the two that stood out were his sophomore and senior seasons. Campbell combined for nearly 3,000 rushing yards and over 30 rushing touchdowns in the 1975 and 1977 seasons.

If Campbell had remained healthy throughout the 1976 season, he could’ve cracked the top two career rushing leaders for the Longhorns.
