Kobe Black, CB

The top cornerback priority on campus for an official visit this weekend for the Longhorns is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally product, Kobe Black. Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns staff have made Black the top priority at the position in the 2024 class for the last six or eight months at least.

Texas prioritizing Black’s recruitment could pay dividends in the near future. It sounds like Texas is a big official visit weekend away from getting Black to potentially move up his decision timeline from closer to the Early Signing Period to the summer.

That is the ultimate goal for Texas during Black’s official visit this weekend. Texas entered Black’s official visit this weekend as the leader in this recruitment. It’s hard to see any other schools that Black recently visited chipping away at Texas’ lead significantly this summer.

Although there are still official visits to Baton Rouge and College Station, respectively, to see the LSU Tigers (Sep. 8) and Texas A&M Aggies (Oct. 6) this fall. Texas needs to put itself in a position to get Black in this class before this recruitment goes too long, allowing other schools to put a dent in the Longhorns’ lead.

I don’t know if a commitment from Black is coming this weekend (it is a possibility). But Texas getting Black to move up his decision timeline to announce by the end of summer would be considered a major success coming out of his official visit this weekend.
