Texas Football: 3 key prospects trending Longhorns after big OV weekend
Texas football hosted roughly 20 official visitors on campus this weekend, including multiple five-star recruits from the 2024 class that are some of the top priority prospects for this cycle. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff started this official visit weekend with a bang, landing a five-star commit on the morning of June 24.
The first commitment that Sark and the Longhorns staff reeled in the 2024 class this weekend was the elite five-star IMG Academy running back Jerrick Gibson. The No. 1 ranked running back recruit in the nation in the 2024 class (according to ESPN) was also the second commitment the Longhorns landed at the position over just three days.
Since the start of last weekend, the Longhorns landed a whopping four blue-chip commits in the 2024 class. All four recruits that committed to the Longhorns 2024 class since last weekend were among the roughly 40 official visitors in the last two weeks.
Kobe Black and the top Texas football recruits trending to the Longhorns this weekend
And given how things are trending for Texas on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class this month, it looks like more commits are on the way. Here’s a look at three key recruits for the Longhorns in the 2024 class trending to Texas this weekend.
Kobe Black, CB
The top defensive back recruit on campus for an official visit to Austin this weekend was the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The Texas lean made his second visit to Texas of the offseason so far, and his first since the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21.
It sounds like this was a fantastic experience for Black and his camp during the Texas official visit the last couple of days. Texas went into the weekend for Black’s official visit with a lead in this recruitment, and nothing we’ve heard in the last 48 hours would do anything to contradict that.
Multiple national recruiting analysts/reporters have entered forecasts in the last few days, projecting Black’s commitment to Texas. And it’s not just coming from one outlet either. Rivals, 247Sports, and On3 have at least one forecast entered in the last few days projecting Black’s commitment to the Longhorns.
If you needed more proof that Black is favored to pick Texas over the likes of the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and Ohio State Buckeyes, look at him holding up the “Hook’em” hand sign while relaxing in Austin on the morning of the final day of his official visit (June 25).
