The most highly-anticipated official visitor for the Longhorns this weekend in the 2024 class was the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons. The No. 1 rated edge rusher recruit in the nation in the 2024 class and the top-ranked prospect out of the state of Texas made his first trip to the Forty Acres for his official visit this weekend since he made the unofficial trip for the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25.

Texas made a big impression on Simmons during his visit unofficially for the second Junior Day of the offseason in late March. That visit helped to solidify Texas as one of the top schools in the race to land a commitment from Simmons heading into the summer.

However, I would say that the official visit this weekend was the best trip to Austin yet for Simmons and his family. Texas moved the needle in a big way for the elite edge rusher recruit out of South Dallas.

Earlier today, we posted on the site that Simmons and his family “might be having the most fun of all the prospects” during this big official visit weekend. Everything we’re hearing regarding Simmons’ experience on the official visit this weekend is positive.

The momentum Texas has on the recruiting trail right now, specifically in Simmons’ recruitment, led to multiple big reporters/analysts around the recruiting industry entering forecasts projecting his commitment to the Longhorns. A 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction was entered on June 25 with six out of 10 confidence projecting Simmons’ commitment to Texas.

Multiple On3 RPM picks were also placed this weekend, projecting Simmons to Texas.

Last but not least, two Rivals FutureCasts entered on June 24 and 25 have Simmons landing at Texas. One of those FutureCasts flipped the projection from the LSU Tigers to Texas this weekend.
