Among the many high-priority defensive back recruits the Longhorns had on official visits this weekend was the highly touted four-star Lancaster (TX) safety/defensive back, Corian Gipson. Texas went into the weekend looking to solidify itself as the top school in the race to land a commitment from Gipson over the Clemson Tigers.

Texas was already in a good spot with Gipson heading into the official visit on June 23. Since Gipson made it through his Clemson official visit a few weeks ago without committing head coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, the Longhorns had a good shot with the blue-chip defensive back recruit out of the DFW Metroplex.

The returns from this official visit to cap the weekend are unanimously positive. It seems like the momentum in this recruitment has almost completely swung Texas’ way in the last few days.

I had Gipson on commitment watch heading into the official visit this weekend. Nothing I’ve heard in the last couple of days would change my mind that Gipson is a Texas lean.

While the numbers are starting to get tight in the 2024 class for the Longhorns at defensive back, it’s clear that Gipson has a spot. He has remained a priority for the Texas defensive staff in the 2024 class for as long as I’ve covered this recruitment, which has been going on for over a year.
