Texas football killing it on 5-Star EDGE Colin Simmons’ OV this weekend
The biggest official visitor that Texas football hosted this weekend was the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher, Colin Simmons. Texas hosted Simmons on his official visit to Austin from June 23-25.
And the early returns from this visit indicate that it went about as well as you could hope as a Longhorns fan. Texas seemingly knocked it out of the park during Simmons’ official visit. This became evident with the multiple forecasts entered by the major recruiting services projecting his commitment to the Longhorns.
It sounds like Texas made this a really fun official visit for Simmons and his family this weekend. Inside Texas reported on June 24 (paid content) that Simmons was “really enjoying himself” during the visit and that “his family might be having the most fun of all the prospects”.

Another key nugget from this IT report mentioned that “nobody is having a better time” than Simmons during this official visit weekend.
All told Texas clearly did a good job making Simmons comfortable during the official visit to Austin this weekend. It also looks like Simmons enjoys the vibe in Austin, at least judging by his activity on social media in the last couple of days.
Coming into Simmons’ official visit to Texas this weekend, the Longhorns and LSU Tigers were considered the frontrunners in the race to land his commitment. But it’s fair to say that Texas has overtaken LSU as the leader in this recruitment coming out of the official visit.
Texas made a big move in this recruitment this weekend. It will be interesting to see if this gets Simmons to move up his decision timeline at all.
The common school of thought is that Simmons was going to make a decision closer to the Early Signing Period in December. But Texas gave him something to think about this weekend, which is all you can ask for if you’re the Longhorns coaching staff.
Simmons only has one official visit remaining on his schedule currently. He’s set to make the official trip in mid-November to Baton Rouge to see LSU. We’ll see if he makes it to that official visit to LSU later in the fall without thinking about shutting down his recruitment first.
