Texas Football: 4 key July commitments to watch for Longhorns
Alex January, DL
Commitment Date: Early-to-mid July*
A top in-state defensive line priority for DL coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns that looks to be on a summer decision timeline is the touted four-star Duncanville defensive lineman Alex January. For more than six months, the sizable 6-foot-5 and 325-pound defensive tackle was one of the top priorities along the D-Line for Davis and the Longhorns in the 2024 class.
And after Texas hosted January for a successful official visit over the weekend, it looks like the Longhorns hold the pole position in the race to land his commitment this summer. The other schools still in the mix here are LSU and the Florida State Seminoles.
If there is one school that could threaten the Longhorns in this recruitment, it is LSU. January has visited LSU as often as he’s seen Texas in the last three months (two visits to each school). LSU also has fewer defensive line priorities on the board right now in the 2024 class with impending decision dates this summer than Texas.
As long as January and his family feel that Texas is making him a priority along the defensive line in the 2024 class, the Longhorns will be the team to beat heading into a likely July decision from the blue-chip D-lineman.
While there is no set decision date for January, that could change soon. Inside Texas reported that we should likely expect a decision from January in early July. But we’ve also heard this recruitment could go deeper into next month.
A good bet is to expect January’s decision in early-to-mid July, assuming nothing major changes in his recruitment in the coming days and weeks.
