Texas football pushing for 5-Star Bama WR commit Ryan Williams
Texas football recruiting is on fire of late, landing five blue-chip commits in the 2024 class over just seven days this month. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian are expected to continue adding numbers to the 2024 class with top targets this cycle throughout July and August.
While Sark and the Longhorns staff continue to add to the 2024 class this summer, a big focus remains on the 2025 class.
Texas is looking to build on its foundation in the 2025 class after landing a big commitment from the high-four-star Saraland (AL) quarterback KJ Lacey earlier this month. Sark and the Longhorns staff can capitalize on their momentum in the 2025 class by continuing to build relationships with the top skill position recruits on the board for this cycle.
Texas football picking up communication with 5-Star Alabama WR commit Ryan Williams
Two of the most significant skill recruits for Texas in the 2025 class early on are a couple of elite five-star wide receivers, Duncanville product Dakorien Moore and Saraland product Ryan Williams. Moore is the top in-state priority at wide receiver for the Longhorns in the 2025 class. And Williams is a critical out-of-state recruit as the top-ranked wide receiver in the nation in the 2025 class.
And while Moore is more likely to end up in this class for the Longhorns, the staff isn’t going to throw in the towel with Williams.
Despite being committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Nick Saban since last fall, Texas is pushing to flip Lacey’s teammate Williams. Lacey is helping the Longhorns recruit Williams to the Forty Acres. And the staff has picked up communication with the elite wideout out of Alabama in the last few weeks.
What Texas is doing in this recruitment appears to be working to a certain extent. Texas could soon get Williams on the books for an unofficial trip to Austin for a game at DKR this fall.
Inside Texas reported on June 28 (paid content) that Williams “definitely wants to take a look at Texas”. He specifically mentioned that a “gameday visit” is when he is looking at visiting Texas this fall.
Texas is one of a few schools pushing to get Williams on campus for visits later this summer and in the fall. The LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Auburn Tigers hosted Williams for visits since he committed to Alabama last fall. The Florida Gators and Texas are also pushing for visits from Williams in the coming months.
Even though Williams is still visiting other schools, he’s maintained recently that he’s firm on his commitment to Alabama. That won’t stop Sark, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns from chipping away at his pledge to Alabama.
